Introduction

I have a seen a few tutorial on this around and it is a wonderful program so I thought I would write my own tutorial and maybe give some better details that the others I've seen. I'm assuming you already know what a SOCKS Proxy is, if not head to FAQ: All About Proxies.

Necessary Tools

Installation & Setup

Well just just run the exe you downloaded and let it do its thing. Should have no problems with the installer. After its installer start it up. I don't remember exactly what it does the first time but I think it just loads up to blank window with some buttons. Note that it also makes a System tray icon, and if you click the "X" to close the program it stays in the tray. Right click the tray icon to quit completely if you want to. Anyway, the setup is quite simple just go to File -> Settings and plug in your SOCKS proxy information. If you don't have any SOCKS then either check your FXP board for Proxy posts or you can scan your own: Scanning - Proxies. Once you have one in the text box you need to set it as either version 4 or 5. Most SOCKS are version 4, and for the User ID just put in something like "guest." If you have a version 5 proxy switch to that and leave it on "Resolve all names locally" and uncheck the "Username/Password" box. That should do it for there, just hit OK and we are ready to use a program Sockified.

To setup a new program you just click the big "New" button and it brings up a dialog. Put in a name for the program then browse to the exe. It will set the working directory for you automatically. For now just setup Internet Explorer (or your other favorite web browser) which is usually located at "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE". Once that is setup double click the new icon it made to launch IE. Try browsing to this page: All Nettools. It should show you the IP of the proxy you entered which is good because it means the connection is going through the proxy. If you get some error like "general socks failure" or the webpage wont load try a different proxy as that one might be dead. If you continue to get errors the webpage your trying to access might really be gone. You can now setup any other programs you'd like to run behind a socks proxy that do not normally support one.
